Warren Zaïre-Emery Remained Fearless in PSG’s 3-0 UCL Win Against AC Milan

When talking about young talents, many would turn to Jude Bellingham, Jamal Musiala, and Gavi but not Warren Zaïre-Emery. However, it may be time for some people to consider the young Frenchmen in the conversation as he took centre stage in an energetic display against AC Milan. Warren Zaïre-Emery, the young U-21 French captain, was instrumental in the match, as he carved open the opposing midfield and provided two assists in a man-of-the-match display. The ever-reliable Kylian Mbappé also got himself a goal alongside national teammate Randal Kolo Muani and new signing Lee Kang-in.

Warren Zaïre-Emery Inspires PSG to the Top of Group F

Before the match, Warren Zaïre-Emery was a massive injury doubt as he picked up a knock which forced him out of the fixture against RC Strasbourg last Saturday. However, the prodigious teenager seemed to recover and was in the starting line-up against Milan. It was the correct decision for Luis Enrique, as the Frenchmen did all the hard work for Mbappé’s opener when he kept himself from falling to the ground and teeing up his captain amidst massive pressure.

After the goal, AC Milan seemed deflated as they were lacklustre in attack and shaky in defence. It did not take long for PSG to capitalise after the break as Maignan did well to deny Ousmane Dembélé, but the ball ended up as a simple tap-in for Randal Kolo Muani. It was just not Dembélé’s day as he had his goal ruled out for a foul in the build-up and left the pitch in the 71 minutes, still looking for his first goal for the club.

To make matters even more hilarious to viewers, his replacement, Lee Kang-in, scored his first goal for PSG after the Korean linked up splendidly with Warren Zaïre-Emery and slotted his shot precisely in the bottom corner. The Frenchmen’s second assist means he now leads the assisting charts for the competition in 2023/24. If that is not talent, we do not know what is.

Warren Zaïre-Emery Becomes the Youngest Player on Record to Register Three Assist in the UCL

After his stunning performance, Warren Zaïre-Emery broke many records, starting from becoming the first-ever player to make 20 starts across all competitions before the age of 18 for PSG and also the youngest player on record with three UCL assists at just 17 years and 231 days old, surpassing the previous record holder Theo Walcott of 2.

In his post-match interview, Warren Zaïre-Emery stated: “I am delighted to be man of the match. It was a team effort. We did it all together and had fun. We are a team, and it shows on the field. We make every effort for each other. I did not play against Strasbourg, but felt good for today and well-prepared for this game. All the better with my two assists. Of course, it was a good game, but I have things to improve.”

While the young prodigy remained humble in his interview, his U-21 French manager, Thierry Henry, praised his captain immensely. “Warren, he can turn anything into action. For example, his two assists, when he burst out and beat the midfielder and played the ball for Lee. The way Warren plays, it is normal that he is running the show at 17 years old. He was the only one that held his ground at St James’ Park. He has been magnificent and outstanding at this moment, and the sky is the limit. I have never seen a player that young being that mature.”

Which Team Will Eventually Prevail in the Group of Death?

The UEFA Champions League draw was not kind to the teams in Group F as there was not a team someone could consider as a punching back. Truthfully, after three games, we are nowhere closer to knowing who will prevail in the group of death, as any team can beat their opposition on any given day.

However, with how today went, PSG are currently top of the table with 6 points, while Dortmund and Newcastle are 2 points behind them after The Black and Yellows upset the Magpies away from home. AC Milan is currently winless and remains bottom with only 2 points. If we were to put our money where our mouth is, we would predict PSG and Newcastle to prevail despite the latter’s slip-up today. Our choice may be contentious, so let us know your choice in the comments below.
